The national dragon boat team delivered one gold and one silver at the start of the 2014 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championships in Poznan, Poland.
The Filipino paddlers reigned supreme in the 10-seater Juniors Men 500-meter
after submitting two minutes and 16.79 seconds, beating silver medalists Russia (2:19.28) and bronze winners Canada (2:22.68).
The junior team advanced to the finals after topping the Heat 1 in 2:13.45.
The Philippines also secured a silver medal in the 20-seater Seniors Men 500-meter event with a time of 1:50.03 seconds.
Russia took the gold with 1:49.17 while Ukraine settled for bronze (1:52.45).
Hungary placed fourth (1:56.01) followed by Italy in fifth (1:56.65) and Canada in sixth (2:00.67).
The senior team will be gunning for gold medal in the finals of the 10-seater Seniors Men 500m. They earned a spot in the finals after ruling Heat 2 of the preliminary round in 2:14.10. They will be paddling against fellow finalists Canada, Russia and Ukraine.
