The Philippine squash rackets team copped four medals in the recently concluded 2nd South East Asian Cup Squash Championship held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
Jamyca Aribado and Yvonne Dalida led the country’s campaign by ruling the women’s jumbo doubles while Robert Garcia and David Pelino earned the men’s jumbo doubles silver medal.
Aribado (women’s individual) and the mixed team tabbed the two bronze medals in the tournament participated by Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand.
“There is no way we are going to be lower than a bronze. These guys have been training hard six times a week,” said Squash Rackets Association of the Philippines (SRAP) president Robert Bachmann on Tuesday at the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association forum at Shakey’s Malate.
The Filipino squashers finished third overall in the tournament topped by Singapore which won two golds, two silvers, and three bronzes.
Bachmann also revealed that the country will be hosting the World Squash Federation (WSF) Ambassadors Program in June. The program caters free clinics, exhibition games, refereeing and coaching seminars.
