Wild card Patrick John Tierro ousted compatriot Calvin Charles Canlas, 7-5, 6-2, to advance to the second round of the $15,000 International Tennis Federation Philippine Men’s Futures on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
Tierro will be meeting the winner between seventh seed Ivo Minar of Czech Republic and Adam Sanjurjo Hermida of Spain.
Former Davis Cup members Jeson Patrombon and Elbert Anasta, on the other hand, lost in their opening games against foreign rivals. Patrombon bowed to Yu Cheng-Yu of Taiwan, 4-6, 6-7 (6), while Anasta got a 6-7 (7) 4-6 decision to Punn Bodhidatta of Thailand.
Third pick Shuichi Sekiguchi of Japan and No. 5 Andrew Whit–tington of Australia also barged into the second round by nipping 2011 Southeast Asian Games champion Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia (6-4, 6-4) and Nguyen Hoang Thien of Vietnam (6-1, 6-4), respectively.
Other Filipinos Johnny Arcilla, Marc Reyes and Jurence Zosimo Mendoza were also scheduled to play on Monday.
