The national athletics team secured two more golds and two silvers on the final day of the 2016 Thailand Track and Field Championships held at the Thammasat University Sports Complex in Bangkok.
Singapore Southeast Asian Games Mervin Guarte pocketed the gold medal in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of one minute and 52.03 seconds.
His teammate, Marco Vilog earned the silver in 1:52.17 while another Filipino bet Wenlie Maulas wound up fifth overall with 1:53.58.
It was a fitting revenge for Guarte, who bagged the silver in the men’s 1,500m run (3:56.01) on the opening day.
The quartet of Archand Christian Bagsit, Edgardo Alejan Jr., Ryan Bigyan and Johan Caido delivered the last gold of the Philippines as they topped the men’s 4x400m relay in 3:11.93, beating rivals from host Thailand and East Java, which settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
Alejan added a silver in the men’s 400m run by registering 47.32 seconds behind gold medalist Dilip Ruwan of Sri Lanka who submitted 46.99 seconds in the tournament sanctioned by the International Athletics Assocations Federation.
Ryan Bigyan finished sixth (48.12) and Reymond Alferos ended seventh (48.49).
In other results, Bagsit was sixth in the men’s 200m dash (21.76 seconds) while University of Southern California standout Bryan Mercado had 10.78 seconds for seventh in the men’s 100m dash.
Two-time SEA Games champion Christopher Ulboc earlier ruled the men’s 3,000m steeplachase in 9:13.04 with Immuel Camino earning the silver medal in 9:24.14.
Overall, the Philippines has three golds and four silvers for third place behind eventual champion Thailand with seven golds, seven silvers and 14 bronzes, and second placer Japan with five golds, five silvers and three bronzes.
