The national trap shooting team copped one gold, two silvers and two bronzes in the 2013 Southeast Asian Shooting Association (SEASA) Championships recently held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Beijing Olympics veteran Eric Ang, former world champion Jethro Dionisio and Hagen Topacio dominated the men’s team event. Topacio scored 115, Ang had 110 and Dionisio contributed 103 for a total output of 328 in beating silver medalist Taiwan (311) and bronze winner Malaysia (305).
The 42-year-old Ang added one silver in the men’s individual competition. Ang lost to eventual champion Le Nghia of Vietnam in the finals, 11-13. Topacio also secured bronze in that event.
In the women’s division, Ylvanna Dy, Joelle Panganiban and Kathlyn Granados chipped in one silver in the team category.
Dy also finished third overall in the individual event.
The tournament served as the team’s preparation for the prestigious World Cup to be held in the United States and Germany, and the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
Trap shooting is not included in the calendar of events in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. The organizing committee has only approved the inclusion of rifle and pistol events.
