Top Filipino Under-14 grassroots talents will test their prowess against top Asian football teams in the 2016 Borneo Cup in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia starting today.
The Philippine U14 team will play against squads from Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Hong Kong, China, Japan, South Korea and Thailand in the tourney that will culminate September 23.
The Filipino booters will be under the tutelage of coaches Alfredo Ray Estacion and Richard Alipar.
“Although the composition changes a bit year to year, I know more than half of the boys. I’ve seen them grow and improve. I think we have a pretty good chance of making an impact this year,” Estacion said.
Former Under-11 Little Azkals member Drexler Valencia of Dumaguete leads the team with Jill Pillora of Iloilo, Josh Asignar and Tristan Enad of Cebu and Nicolai Abalos of Laguna.
Also seeing action is Gregory Tacondong, a young talent that was discovered in the Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental leg of the 2016 Football For A Better Life initiative of Pru Life UK and Spears FC.
