Both squads exchanged a series of attacks in the first half in hopes of scoring the initial goal of the contest. Despite the intensity of the game, a goal-less silence marked the end of opening half.
Meanwhile, the 15,000 local fans present to support the Cambodian squad cheered wildly as Teat Kimheng notched the only goal of the game in the 55th minute off an assist by teammate San Kimheng.
The young Azkals tried to retaliate but failed to score a goal until the end of regulation losing to the home squad in their debut match.
The team, under the tutelage of head coach Jose Maria Aberasturi and assistant coach Chieffy Caligdong, is competing in a tough Group B together with Myanmar, Australia, Singapore and hosts Cambodia.
