Southeast Asian Games veteran Nestor Colonia bagged two golds and one silver in the men’s 56-kilogram event of the 45th Senior Men’s Asian Weightlifting Championships being held in Phuket, Thailand.
The 23-year-old Colonia registered 153 kgs. in topping the Clean and Jerk event beating Tran Le Quoc Toan of Vietnam (152 kgs.) and Kruaithong Sinphet of Thailand (146 kgs.), who settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
He had an overall showing of 274 kgs. to claim the gold medal in Total with Quoc Toan finishing second (272 kgs.) and Sinphet ending up third (268 kgs.).
Colonia lifted 121 kgs. to secure the silver medal in Snatch, dominated by Sinphet (122 kgs.).
Vietnam’s Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan wound up fourth in total (261 kgs.) followed by Hazal Wafie Muhammad Azroy of Malaysia (242), Mohana Sundaram Shanmugam of India (235), Desappriya Egodawatte of Sri Lanka (235), Jac Lakmal of Sri Lanka (235) and Chen Wei-Cheng of Taiwan (212).
Beijing Olympics veteran and 2013 Myanmar Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz will be gunning for medals in the 53-kg. category of the women’s division.
Diaz is in Group A with Kittima Sutanan of Japan, Kim Su Ryon of North Korea, Yu Yuan Yuan of China, Cho Yumi of South Korea and Nguyen Thi Thuy of Vietnam.
