• Pinoys exit doubles event


    All Filipino netters were also wiped out in the doubles event of the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer International Junior Championships on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.

    Khim Iglupas and Roxanne Resma lost to No. 8 Rosie Cheng of New Zealand and Ye Qui Yu of China, 1-6, 0-6, in the second round; and Maia Balce and Thai partner Jaipet Anontaweesil succumbed to No. 4 Indonesian Tami Grende and American Katherin Steffensen, 1-6, 1-6, also in the second round; and Andrea Amistad and Monica Cruz bowed  to Natsuho Arakawa of Japan and Lizette Cabrera of Australia, 1-6, 0-6, in the opening round of the  girls’ category.

    Not as lucky in the boys’ class were Jerome Romualdez and Stefan Suarez, who was beaten by Kumar Sameer of US and Sharmal Dissa–nayake of Sri Lanka, 1-6, 0-6, (first round); Alberto Lim Jr. and German Boris Klingebiel, who surrendered to Taiwanese duo Lo Chien Hsun and Meng Cing-Yang, 6-4, 2-6, 7-10 (first round); Vince Salas and Joachim Samson, who fell short against Jake Delaney of Australia and William Matheson of New Zealand, 2-6, 6-1, 7-10, (first round); and Dave Mosqueda and Eric Olivarez Jr., who absorbed a 0-6, 1-6, loss to No. 5 Alex Klincharov of New Zealand and Rhett Purcell of Great Britain (second round).
