Filipino basketball aficionados have nothing but praises for retiring National Basketball Association star Kobe Bryant.

“Sad but happy at the same time. He’s changed the perspective of a lot of players toward the sports. I think I can say that because NBA will be different without Kobe,” said Ateneo De Manila University guard and back-to-back University Athletic Association of the Philippines MVP Kiefer Ravena.

“Happy because finally after two decades he can finally put his sneakers to rest and live the life of a true legend. I’m a Kobe fan ever since I started playing basketball. I admit that I’m also doing what he says in his letter. He shoots at garbage can and I do it to most of the time.”

“I told myself that I wanted to be like him. I would watch his games and copy his moves,” Ravena added. “I’m a solid mamba fan for life.”

Veteran Philippine Basketball Association coach Yeng Guiao said that the time has finally come for Bryant to say goodbye to basketball since he has nothing more to prove.

“In two decades, he had a very fruitful high-level basketball accomplishments,” said Guiao. “There are no many high —level players who played for 20 years just like Bryant. I’ve always respect his leadership and skills, but time will come your body cannot make it although your spirit and mind is okay.”

Guiao added that Bryant could stay in basketball but not as a player anymore. “He should find his place in the NBA as good manager or a coach. He can be good in both ways. He already accomplished everything as a player.”

Another PBA player, Gary David of Meralco said that Bryant made the right decision to retire.

“I understand his decision,” said David. “It’s good to retire while you’re still on the top and Kobe has made a good decision. There are many good players who refused to retire despite the fact that their body could no longer play competitively.”

“Those players are gone now because there are many new players who play better than them.”

“At this stage, I think this is the right time for him to retire since he has many injuries,” he added. “Kobe has nothing to prove anymore as player because he already accomplished everything. He has many endorsement too just like Michael Jordan, so his future is also secured.”
