For the sixth year in a row, top celebrity and philanthropist Piolo Pascual will enjoy the generous support of Sun Life Philippines in raising millions for charity with the annual “Sunpiology Run.”
Slated on November 15 at the Bonifacio Global City—just a few hours before sunset in keeping with tradition—the event’s handsome and good-hearted originator announced at a news conference on Monday that not only does he have the “Sun” on his side to mount this year’s race, but also the four elements of nature as well.
“To make Sunpiology even more exciting for this year’s participants, we asked the help of Run Rio’s Coach Rio dela Cruz to conceptualize the course, and he decided to incorporate the four elements of nature—earth, wind, water and fire—for an adventure-filled run.”
The running coach who is also considered as the day’s top race organizer explained beside Pascual that Sunpiology 2014 will have an “Indiana Jones” theme.
“The aim is to make the charity race different from the usual fun runs so we’re officially calling it ‘Sun-piology: An Adventure-Filled Run with the Stars’,” dela Cruz began. “There will be obstacle courses for each of the four elements of nature, specifically a grass crawl to represent earth; giant fan propellers to make wind; a ‘garter fire’ the runners have to pass through for fire; and finally a shower mist for water.”
Guaranteeing safety for all runners through the courses, the well known coach added that medical teams will be scattered in strategic locations all over BCG for the 500-meter dash and the 3-, 5- and 10-kilometer distances.
Hoping to raise the number of participants from a little over 2,000 in 2013, Pascual hopes to hit 3,000 this year.
“It’s all for a good cause,” the actor assured. “Since partnering with Sun Life in 2008, the funds raised from Sunpiology have sent so many underprivileged Filipino youths to school—from elementary to college. Some of them are already working for companies both here in abroad.”
The scholars are under the care of Pascual’s Hebreo Foundation, which he co-founded with the sole aim of bringing education to as many individuals as possible across the country.
“I believe in education and I believe everyone deserves to study so they can assure themselves of a better future,” he added.
An avid runner himself who has clocked in record time in a number of races, Pascual promises the public not only chance to get fit while helping others, but also a celebrity-filled event from starting line and even beyond the finish line.
“Just like the past years, many of my fellow Star Magic talents will take part in the race, and also perform in the grand concert for the awards ceremony in the evening,” he related. “The prizes at stake will also be bigger this year thanks to Sun Life and our other sponsors. Imagine running for charity and getting start-up funds if you’re lucky!”
So far, the ABS-CBN celebrities who have confirmed their participation in Sunpiology include Alexa Ilacad, Sharlene San Pedro, Jane Oineza, Ynna Asistio, Francis Magundayao, Trina Legaspi, CJ Novato, Jovit Baldivino, Markki Stroem, Igiboy Flores, Sofia Andres, former Pinoy Big Brother All In housemates Aina Solano, Axel Torres, Fifth Solomon, Fourth Solomon, Joshua Garcia, Loisa Andalio, Manolo Pedrosa, Maris Racal, Nichole Barranda, Vickie Rushton, Rayver Cruz, Ejay Falcon, Joem Bascon, Jessy Mendiola, and Matteo Guidicelli.
“Every year, Sunpiology becomes more meaningful because we get to see how much we’re helping the lives of our beneficiaries. We also receive more assistance, which means that more people are pitching in. Together, we do live up to the most generous season of the year what with the race scheduled a few weeks before Christmas,” enthused Pascual. “I do hope everyone can come out and join us on November 15.”
