With Starting Over Again hitting the P200-million mark just days after opening on February 12, Star Cinema has another runway hit in its roster of 20th anniversary offerings on the big screen.
With its blockbuster gross growing to this day, netizens, celebrities and critics alike also continue to flood Twitter and Instagram with praises for the Olivia Lamasan movie. Fans abroad also flocked to the movie’s international premiere on February 15 at Fox Theater in Redwood City, California.
Lead actor Piolo Pascual must be commended for his performance as the heart-broken Marco, further proof of his status as one of the country’s box office actors, even after 15 years in the industry. “Papa P” as he is lovingly called in showbiz circles has certainly still got it! His chiselled looks and emotionally charged acting, combined with his on-screen chemistry with Toni Gonzaga and Iza Calzado, shows that Piolo is in perfect leading man form.
Even Lamasan said that Piolo’s role in Starting Over Again was right for the seasoned actor. “For the longest time I’ve been looking for new material for PJ,” she said, using another nickname for the actor. “I’ve always told him, with what he has achieved in showbiz, parang hindi na kita mahawakan sa isang proyekto. So naghahanap ako ng isang role para sa kanya na masasabi kong, ‘Ah, nasasaktan ka pa rin, ito ka pa rin,’ and Marco was the perfect role.”
Overwhelmed by the public’s response, Piolo couldn’t be grateful enough, saying, “To everyone who came out and supported our film, waited patiently in the long lines, sitting in front of movie houses just to be able to watch the film, thank you very much!
“Thank you very much for believing and extending your support to Star Cinema and everyone who is part of this project. We’re all humbled by your love. May we continue to spread love and harbor good feelings toward everyone. Mabuhay ang pelikulang Pilipino! To God be the glory!”
Starting Over Again is still showing in cinemas nationwide. There will be international screenings in North America (Arkansas, Illinois, Hawaii, California, Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Washington, Texas, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia); Canada (Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan); the Middle East (UAE, Qatar & Bahrain); and Australia (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane) within the coming weeks.
