An All Nippon Airways (ANA) flight with 182 passengers and 10 crew aboard was forced to return to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Friday after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit.
Flight NH950 bound for Narita, Japan, took off at 9:54 a.m. but returned at 10:20 a.m. after its pilot, Capt. Kenji Takahashi, declared an emergency landing.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said the plane was still in Philippine territory when the smoke was reported by the pilot.
An MIAA Fire and Rescue team that boarded the plane did not find smoke in the cockpit, only a lingering smell of something burning.
The ANA station in Manila cancelled the flight and its passengers boarded the next available flight.
