PLASTIC garbage in the sea on Tuesday caused the death of a rough-toothed dolphin on Tuesday that was recovered along the beachline in Barangay Virgen Milagrosa, Badoc in Ilocos Norte, according to the Laoag-based Fishery Regulation Office. Fishery officials said the dolphin which measures 1.73 meters long was found on Friday night by local fishermen. The dolphin died at 5:30 p.m. and was buried in a vacant lot in Barangay Dadaliquitin, Sinait, Ilocos Sur. Arthur Valente, Ilocos Norte Fishery Regulation officer, said several plastic materials inside the dolphin’s intestines were found blocking its food path. Earlier, local fishermen constructed a temporary fish pen for the said dolphin. Rough-toothed dolphins are usually found in deep, tropical waters around the world. Leander C. Domingo
