Telecom giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) is in talks with Samsung and Apple to create a customized Telpad to cater to its high-end customers. Telpad is PLDT’s landline service that comes bundled with an Android touch screen tablet. “Samsung, last year. As for Apple, we’re still trying to get an audience with them, but were talking to other China based suppliers, China-Taiwan-based also,” said Patrick Tang, vice president and head of PLDT’s HOME Voice Solutions. “The company is seriously investing in this particular initiative to make sure that every household has a Telpad unit. In fact we’re talking to different suppliers to make sure that we have high, mid to low offerings,” Tang said. In 2013, PLDT generated revenue of almost P800 million from its Telpad service, which now has more than 100,000 subscribers nationwide.
