• PLO official condems killing of three Palestinians in Qalandia

THE Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi on Wednesday strongly denounced Israel’s military incursion into the Qalandia refugee camp near Jerusalem, which resulted in the killing of three Palestinians and the wounding of 15—six of whom are in critical condition.

“Israel’s use of excessive and indiscriminate violence and live ammunition in densely populated civilian areas represents a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law,” Ashrawi said.

“We call on the members of the United Nations Security Council, the Quartet and the rest of the international community to take serious measures to bring an immediate end to the killing of innocent civilians and to terminate Israel’s impunity,” Ashwari added.

Ashrawi also condemned Israel’s approval of funding for the development of infrastructure in the illegal settlement of Ramat Shlomo for the amount of NIS 62 million.

“Israel’s intentions to construct 1,600 units in the illegal settlement of Ramat Shlomo to be built on Shu’fat’s lands are a continuation of Israel’s policy of carrying out a flagrant ethnic cleansing of East Jerusalem; they constitute a total disregard of United States Secretary of State John Kerry’s initiative and are a direct blow to peace. Israel must be held accountable and must be made to cease and desist before it destroys the chances for peace forever,” concluded Dr. Ashrawi.
