PNoy admits MILF and AFP made a fool of him

PNOY’S announcement that the “alternative narrative” in the Mamasapano massacre had, in fact, no basis is an implied admission that he was duped not only by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) but also by his own military. “Nakuryente,” as media practitioners would say.

PNoy finally declared during a special national address broadcast live on state radio and television last Thursday: “It is clear from the presentation today: the SAF were there; we can no longer doubt that it was the SAF who took Marwan’s finger.”

“Ang iba pang salasyay or narrative ay wala ng basehan at wala na ring saysay (All the other accounts about the alternative narrative are baseless, and consequently have no relevance),” PNoy concluded, finally putting an end to his wild goose chase for an “alternative narrative.”

So how did PNoy end up being made to look like a fool in the first place?

It all began with a seemingly innocuous statement by PNoy during an interview aired live on state-run PTV-4 that “there is an alternative version of events that happened [during the Mamasapano encounter]which is undergoing very intense scrutiny.”

PNoy said they were “still looking for witnesses that will prove or disprove certain observations” in order to ferret out the “complete truth” behind the tragedy.

Apparently, PNoy was fed a cock-and-bull story on who Marwan’s “real” killers are and how the Malaysian terrorist was supposedly killed. The fictional tale appeared plausible enough to convince PNoy not only to disregard the findings of the Senate and Philippine National Police (PNP)’s Board of Inquiry but also to order an investigation into this so-called “alternative version of events.”

The authors of this yarn seem obvious enough, especially with how the so-called alternative version of Marwan’s death unfolded in newspaper and TV reports.

Soon after PNoy disclosed the on-going inquiry into the alternative narrative on Mamasapano, the MILF’s chief peace negotiator, Mohagher Iqbal (or whatever his real name is), came out with a bombshell allegation that Marwan was executed by his own bodyguards.

“There is only one truth,” Iqbal said, referring to the MILF’s investigation report into the clash between its forces and commandos from the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) in Mamasapano. Suspiciously, Iqbal refused to publicly release the MILF report claiming it was confidential.

Anyway, the MILF report contradicted SAF commander Getulio Napeñas’ story that it was police commandos who infiltrated Marwan’s lair and killed the Malaysian terrorist.

In their report, MILF investigators concluded that Marwan was shot at close range while lying on the floor allegedly since there were no bullet holes in the floor of the hut and the trajectory of the bullets showed the fatal shots could not have come from outside the house.

This version appears to give credence to the claim by some MILF officials that Marwan was killed by his own security aides and that the Malaysian terrorist was already dead when the SAF arrived in his hut.

To make this “new” (i.e. alternative) narrative more believable, one of the alleged bodyguard-killers even appeared on primetime TV, describing the firefight that led to the death of Marwan.

The MILF’s alternative version was echoed by anonymous military sources who reportedly confirmed that it was the aide of Marwan who killed the Malaysian terrorist, going so far as to identify the killers of Marwan as a certain Datucan Singgagao and Candao Langalan.

Unknown to the “scriptwriters” of the alternative version, there were several photographs taken during the operation, which conclusively proved that it was SAF troopers who killed Marwan, then cut off and took the finger of the Malaysian terrorist.

While the alternative version of the Mamasapano encounter has now been completely demolished, this should not be the end of the controversy. BS Aquino owes the families of the SAF 44 heroes an explanation as to who or what made him question the findings of the Senate and the PNP and want to actively pursue the so-called “alternative narrative.”

For starters, who were the people in the MILF and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Department of National Defense (DND) who brought out, endorsed or backed this “alternative narrative of events?”

Did BS Aquino come across any newly discovered evidence supporting the so-called alternative version of events? Or did he stare at the photograph of Marwan lying dead in the hut a little bit too long that the Malaysian terrorist started talking to him about what happened that fateful dawn?

PNoy should realize that he was played and played good. Regardless of whether the sudden emergence of this alternative version stems from a fight over the reward money or professional rivalry, it should now be clear to PNoy that the MILF, in cahoots with some military officials, are not beyond foisting a lie on our country’s commander-in-chief.

At the very least, PNoy should not only junk the Bangsamoro Basic Law but also make some heads roll if only to show he will not tolerate being duped. If he doesn’t, then he’s a bigger fool than we thought.

Is P-Noy not as what the writer wrote? From the very beginning, the big 10 had a hand in running government. And, the Filipino people should not be surprised if history will suddenly unearth that the last two elections, with the hocus-PCOS machine in operation, did a fool of the people. God bless the Philippines.
