ILOILO CITY: For the first time in Philippine history, President Benigno Aquino 3rd will became the first head of the country to lead the celebration of Philippine Independence Day in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo next year. Senate President Franklin Drilon made the announcement on July 31 during his visit here where he inspected the ongoing infrastructure projects and grace the regular meeting of the Iloilo Batiano River Development Council. Drilon said the President is considering his option to celebrate the Independence Day outside of the Luneta in Manila and Sta. Barbara, Iloilo is most considered. The history-rich town is the first to raise arms against the Spanish regime in the Visayas led by home grown hero, Gen. Martin Delgado. The Ilonggo hero was also the first to led the revolution against the American domination of Iloilo after the Spanish-American war and was subsequently banished by the American officials to Mindanao.
