President Benigno Aquino 3rd on Monday led the distribution of 135 newly procured fire trucks and 144 new police patrol jeeps for modernization and enhancement capability of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the other public safety services under the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). The BFP received a total of 469 units since last year, 244 of which are 1000 gallons capacity while 225 are of 500-gallons worth P2.5 billion. It recorded at least 1,909 fire incidents nationwide with P169.3 million worth of damages for the month of March 2016. A significant drop was noted, compared to last year’s 2,869 fire incidents with a total of P419.2 million worth of damages. Similarly, the 144 new patrol jeeps is part of the 186 units of Enforcer patrol jeeps recently procured from the savings sourced out from the Capability Enhancement Program (CEP) fund.
