PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino 3rd will join the ranks of the unemployed for a whole year after stepping down from office.
In jest, Aquino said during the opening program for the 30th year of the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD-MRI) in Laguna province on Wednesday that he hopes to make ends meet with his pension and savings.
“You know under our laws members of the Cabinet, and me, cannot participate in an industry that I used to regulate. Because I am President I have regulated all [industries],” he explained.
“That means that I will not be able to work for one year,” the President said.
Previously, Aquino hinted that he will be taking the role of a tourist effective July 1. His term ends at midnight of June 30 this year.
Aquino held shares at the Cojuangco family-owned Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac province.
The President is spending his last 105 days in office by going around the country to campaign for Liberal Party (LP) bets led by his close friend, Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd.
In his speech, Aquino again stressed the importance of continuing his tuwid na daan (straight path) legacy, saying he as president has the moral obligation to ensure that he will leave the people in good hands.
He expressed full confidence that Roxas and his running mate, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, can stand up to the challenge and ensure good governance.
