THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said that they have yet to receive the P800 million that it had requested from the Commission on Election (Comelec) as their budget for election expenses.
“We will be having a meeting with the Comelec to have some clarification and reconcile our liquidation for the previous election… which could be the cause of delay for the budget that we are now asking,” PNP Chief, Director General Ricardo Marquez said.
The PNP chief explained that the P800 million budget they are seeking from the poll body will be used as funds for the allowance of their personnel who would be deployed in the polling precincts and expenses for gasoline and checkpoint operations.
Marquez added that part of the P800 million budget will also be used in transporting election paraphernalia.
He said that if the budget will not yet be released by the Comelec, they have no recourse but to source their expenses from their regular Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE).
“We will have to use our own MOOE to shoulder our own expenses for the coming synchronized national and local election on May 9, 2016,” Marquez said.
