PNP fields lawmen on bikes in Boracay


THE Philippine National Police (PNP) are set to deploy this week several bicycle- mounted policemen in Boracay Island, Aklan, a popular tourist destination in the Western Visayas region, officials said on Wednesday.

Regional police commander Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., said that a total of 40 police officers in the region have completed their training on bicycle proficiency handling at the regional headquarters in Iloilo.

“We will deploy 20 of our newly trained bicycle mounted-policemen at Boracay Island this coming Friday,” Cruz said.

The deployment of bicycle patrols, he said will increase police visibility in the premiere tourist spot and help in the maintenance of peace and order situation.

“Among our priorities is to enhance police visibility and improve their campaign against criminality in the island . . . it’s our show window to the world,” Cruz said.

The police official said the remaining 20 policemen that have completed their training on bicycle proficiency handling be deployed in other parts of the region.
