THE Philippine National Police (PNP) is gearing-up for a huge protest and prayer rally that calls for the total abolition of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) commonly known as “pork-barrel” of lawmakers.
The anti-pork barrel rally slated on Wednesday at the Edsa Shrine is reported to be a follow-up to the a million people march against “pork” that was held at Luneta Park in Manila last month.
PNP spokesman, Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor said that the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) has been directed by higher-headquarters to provide the necessary security coverage for Wednesday’s scheduled anti-pork barrel rally.
“The NCRPO is directed to provide security coverage, public safety services and other contingency measures during the activity and coordinate with the organizers of the rally,” Mayor told reporters in Camp Crame.
The PNP spokesman added that the NCRPO will also coordinate with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
“They [NCRPO] will also coordinate with other agencies like the MMDA, HPG and other agencies to ensure a smooth flow and to provide traffic management,” Mayor said.
The PNP spokesman added that Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) units of thee Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog regional police offices were placed on standby for possible augmentation to Ncrpo.
“The order to them is to organize their CDM contingent, placed them on standby at their respective headquarters ready for deployment on orders,” Mayor said. ANTHONY VARGAS
