• PNP identifies 4 areas as top sites for cybercrime in PH

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday identified four highly-urbanized areas in the country as top sites of cyber pornography which is now considered as a serious problem by the police Anti-Transnational and Cyber Crime Division.

Senior Supt. Gilbert Sosa, director of the PNP-Anti-Transnational and Cyber Crime Division, identified the cities of Angeles in Pampanga, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Metro Manila as among the top sites of pedophiles preying on Filipino youth.

“There are transmissions from all over the Philippines but these are the top sites,” said Sosa.

Sosa said that based on data gathered by the PNP, child pornography has become a serious problem in the country in the advent of modern technology.

“The data speaks for itself that cyber child pornography is the number one crime in the Philippines now. . . it is a serious problem that we have to stop,” said Sosa.

“There are tens of thousands of locations in the Philippines where these are transmitted. As we go up the ladder, then it becomes an organized (syndicate),” added Sosa.

Sosa noted that the Philippines now ranks among the Top 10 in the world when it comes to cybercrime. He said that clients of such illegal activities are mostly from the United States and Europe.

The police official called for more community involvement in addressing the cybercrimes, noting that,”It is a shared responsibility of the community to fight the problem.”

Sosa stressed that government authorities are regularly conducting seminars to improve its online investigation capability. PNA
