PNP intensifies campaign vs illegal loggers


CAMP DANGWA, LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: An “all out war” versus illegal logging in the Cordillera netted almost P100,000 of assorted sewn lumber, the Cordillera police reported. During the first week of February, the Alfonso Lista Police Office in Ifugao with the National Power Corporation recovered an abandoned illegally sawn lumber while conducting a clean-up drive and visitation at the Magat Watershed in Namnama. The Mountain Province Police Office also recovered at least 150 pieces of illegally sawn Der-an lumber valued at P57,464.00 in Barangay Bananao, Paracelis town. The Tublay, Benguet Police Office also seized illegally sawn pine lumber that were already piled for delivery. The Bauko and Atok Police offices also reported the recovery of illegal lumber in their jurisidictions. Cordillera Police Director Isagani Nerez said the policemen got a lot of help from their respective communities as people reported the illegal cutting of trees.
