THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday opened for bidding three separate multi-million contracts for supply and delivery of more than 15,000 standard-issue rifles and 200,000 units of magazines for its different operational units nationwide.
The PNP Bids and Awards Committee published two bid invitations for the procurement of thousands of new rifles with one contract involving 1,819 basic 5.56mm basic rifles for its Capability Enhancement program and another for another 13,663 of the same type of firearms for its Operational Transformation Program.
The PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, told reporters during a chance interview in Camp Crame in Quezon City that long rifles like the ones that the PNP is procuring are commonly used by the 150, 000-strong police organization for special operations.
The approved budget for the procurement of the rifles is P160. 891 million.
Bidders may avail of bid documents from June 23 up to August 14, 2015 and bid documents can be acquired by interested bidders for P50,000 (non-refundable).
The interested bidders can get the bid documents at the PNP main headquarters in Camp Crame.
