THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday’s nationwide multi-sectoral rally calling for the abolition of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or Pork Barrel is turning-out smoothly.
PNP Public Information Chief, Senior Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac, said that Monday’s people’s activity being conducted nationwide remains peaceful with no untoward incident reported as of noontime Monday.
“No untoward incident monitored and the situation remains normal,” Sindac said.
Monitoring by the PNP national operations center in Camp Crame said that thousands of people went out to the street to participate in the people’s protest rally calling for the abolition of ‘pork barrel’.
In Manila, center of the protest rally, police have estimated some 58,000 gathered at the Luneta Grandstand.
In Ilocos Region, about 60 from non-government organizations and students led by Father Simon Bistro gathered at the City Plaza of Dagupan City, Pangasinan province.
In Cagayan Valley, 20 members of a cause oriented group and 50 cyclist converge at Mabini town, Nueva Ecija province.
In Central Luzon, some 500 rallyists led by Mayor Rolen Paulino of Olongapo City gathered at the Marikit Park in the city center.
In Western Visayas, about 1,070 persons participated the rally at the Bacolod Public Plaza and another 570 in front of a cathedral in Roxas City, Capiz province and 300 persons converged at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol in Iloilo City.
In Cebu City, some 4,000 rallyists from the groups of Legal Alternatives for Women’s Center Inc., FINEX, Cebu UP students, brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professions and Magdalo are holding their activity at Plaza Independecia.
In Caraga region, police says that around 300 rallyists from different sector and NGO’s are heading for Rizal Park in Surigao City.
While in Davao City, around 3,000 of religious, student, youth and militant sector took part in the people’s rally against “pork” marched from Freedom Park toward Rizal Park of the said city.
In Bicol Region, around 50 persons led by a certain Kagawad Bordado held their rally at Naga City Plaza and in Legazpi City about 50 rallyists led by Fred Mansus and Vince Casilihan of Bayan Muna and KMU. Anthony Vargas
