THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it will implement a new visiting-hour schedule for the PNP custodial center where Senators Ramon “Bong” Revilla and Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada are detained for plunder charges in connection with the pork barrel scam.
PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac said the new visiting hours will take effect immediately following the apparent extension of stay by some visitors of Estrada over the weekend.
In a press briefing in Camp Crame on Tuesday, Sindac said the new visiting hours will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sundays, while Monday will be a general cleaning and laundry day.
“The visiting hours are in effect and are awaiting final approval more or less . . . awaiting notation,” Sindac said.
Families of the senators are still allowed to come outside of the visiting hours with prior coordination with the director of the Headquarters Support Service (HSS), which is in- charge of the PNP Custodial Center.
The PNP spokesman said Monday that Senior Supt. Mario Malana, the director of the center, was given by HSS director, Chief Supt. Benito Estipona 48 hrs to explain the apparent breach of the policy on visiting hours.
Following reports that some visitors were overstaying at the center, PNP Director General Alan Purisima tasked Estipona to conduct an investigation
Estrada and Revilla have been detained at the PNP custodial center for more than two weeks after both of them surrendered after learning that the Sandiganbayan have issued warrants for their arrest.
