Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Chairman Jose Jorge E. Corpuz clarified that the 2.5 percent charity share of PNP in the small town lottery or STL is not a financial support to fund its daily operations but is intended to support the PNP’s medical and health programs.
Corpuz emphasized that the PCSO also grants this financial assistance to other government institutions fighting illegal gambling, like the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
“The PCSO realized that the AFP soldiers fighting in Marawi should also have a fair share in the STL in order to support their medical and hospital needs,” Corpuz said.
PCSO General Manager Alexander F. Balutan said he welcomes the statement of PNP Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa that they want to sit down with PCSO officials to clear things up on the gray areas between the small town lottery (STL) and the illegal numbers game.
Along this line, Corpuz said that the fight against illegal gambling and the smooth implementation of STL would give PCSO and the Duterte administration the needed revenue to fund the numerous medical and health programs that would benefit millions of Filipinos.
