• PNP ‘silences’ lawmen’s guns

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday took preventive steps to ensure that this year’s holiday season will be peaceful and orderly by sealing the muzzle of the firearms of the force.

At the PNP main headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City, around 1,500 police personnel took part in the muzzle-taping, an annual activity held this time of year.

Chief Supt. Albert Supapo, the director of the PNP headquarters support services, said the move is part of preventing indiscriminate firing of guns by some policemen.

“The taping of muzzle is part of the PNP’s move to be free from the indiscriminate use of firearms among policemen,” Supapo told reporters during the ceremony for the sealing.

He said the PNP will punish its personnel who will not refrain from firing their guns
during the holiday season that in the past wounded or killed innocent individuals.

Supap said the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines will deploy joint teams nationwide to apprehend police and military personnel who will be caught firing their guns.
