• PNP tags Iloilo City as the most crime prone areas in Western Visaya


    THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday has tagged Iloilo City as one of the most crime prone area in Western Visayas region after having the highest number of reported crime in the region for the first six months of the year.

    Data from the PNP Directorate for Investigative and Detective Management (DIDM) showed that crimes are in the upswing in the region with 4,631 cases recorded from January to end of June this year.

    Iloilo City tops the list with a total recorded crime volume of 1,049 for the same period. Half of which or 529 were crimes against property; 318 are crimes against person and 202 cases are non-index crimes.

    Crime are in the upswing lately following a directive from the PNP headquarters that crimes reported to “Lupon ng Barangay” or village officials should now be included in the police crime statistics.

    Following Iloilo City in the list is Negros Occidental with 824 recorded crime volume, of which 293 cases are non-index crimes or violations of special laws and 153 cases of physical injuries.

    Bacolod City landed on the third spot with 778 recorded crime volume. Report said that 293 cases of Bacolod’s total crime volume are non-index crimes while 265 cases of theft.

    The provinces of Aklan and Iloilo ranked fourth and fifth in the list with 657 and 561 recorded crime volume, respectively.

    Meanwhile, Capiz ,Antique and Guimaras completed the list with recorded crime volumes of 425, 232, and 10, respectively. ANTHONY VARGAS
