THE Philippine National Police (PNP) plans to improve its police to population ratio by opening its door to more civilians for administrative and technical positions. Based on international standard, the ideal police to population ratio is about one policeman for every 500 people. But the country’s police to civilian population ratio is 1/800. PNP public information director Chief Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac said the PNP will recruit some 7,400 civilians this year to allow more police personnel to be deployed to the field for police duties.
