AFTER staging a jampacked campaign rally in Tacloban City, Leyte, a known bailiwick of vice presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Partido Galing at Puso (PGP) led by Senators Grace Poe and Francis “Chiz” Escudero will be invading Tuguegarao in Cagayan Valley Monday in an attempt to capture support of residents there.
Tuguegarao is the capital of Cagayan province and a known stronghold of one of Poe’s rival presidential candidates, Vice President Jejomar Binay.
The Poe-Escudero tandem will be joined by the senatorial candidates of PGP during their campaign sorties, which will include public consultation with multi-sectoral groups and local leaders.
The two senators are also expected to meet with the residents of Tuguegarao during market visits there.
Even if the Tuguegarao is a known Binay bailiwick, Poe and the rest of the her PGP team are expecting to get a warm reception just like in the province of Leyte last week.
More than 25,000 people turned up to support Poe and PGP in what is considered to be the biggest rally yet by the coalition since the start of the campaign season.
The crowd at the RTR Plaza in downtown Tacloban, which has a capacity of 25,000, swelled beyond the plaza’s perimeter as the senatorial bets began to take the stage around 6 p.m.
The people came from all over Leyte.
Despite of the drizzle and the supposed attempts of some barangay officials to discourage the people to attend the PGP event, hordes of people flocked to the rally site to listen to the candidates.
Poe recalled how the people of Leyte supported her father, the late Fernando Poe Jr. or FPJ when he ran for President in 2004.
FPJ held his own political rally in the same venue.
Poe and Escudero will also be visiting Angeles City in Pampanga province on Tuesday.
