THE Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) should come up with a mechanism that will enhance the coordination and collaboration between the Philippine National Police (PNP) and barangays in anti-illegal drugs campaign, according to Senator Grace Poe.
Poe, who heads the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, insisted that there should be a clear mechanism in place to ensure better coordination between the PNP and the barangay officials in the reporting of drug-related activities.
She said village officials play an important role in the national government’s campaign against drug trafficking and abuse because they know who are dealing and using drugs in their areas.
If the PNP and the DILG can introduce an effective coordination mechanism with the more than 42,000 barangays nationwide, it will be easy for authorities to catch members of drug syndicates, Poe said.
“It is high time we address the drug problem at the grassroots level. Community involvement is essential to the success of the government’s anti-drug campaign,” the senator stressed.
