GLORIA, Oriental Mindoro: Sen. Grace Poe vowed to build a bridge that will connect Oriental Mindoro and Batangas if she will win the presidential race in May.
Poe thanked the people of Oriental Mindoro for their support and for giving her the winning votes in 2013.
In her speech, the senator vowed to build a 14-kilometer bridge connecting Oriental Mindoro and Batangas to heighten tourism, improve economic activities and help farmers and fishermen from the two provinces.
She acknowledged the urgent need for the construction of the bridge so that farm and other agricultural products coming from Oriental Mindoro can be sold at a higher price in Batangas.
“Kung ako ang magiging Pangulo, hindi lamang katapatan ang ibibigay ko sa inyo kung hindi mabilis na pagtatrabaho para maramdaman n’yo agad ang ginhawa sa buhay n’yo (If I will become President I will not only give you an administration that is sincere, I will also give you a government that works hard so that you will immediately be relieved of your hardship),” she said.
“Bubuhusan ko ng proyekto ang Mindoro sapagkat marami ang mahirap dito. Maglalagay tayo ng tulay dito sa Oriental Mindoro hanggang Batangas (I will pour projects into your province because many people here are poor. We will put up a bridge that will stretch from Oriental Mindoro to Batangas),” she added.
Poe said that with the help and support of Congress, the construction of the bridge can start before the second half of her term.
“Kapag sinabi nila, kaya ba talaga yan? Kaya natin iyan, na mayroon kayong kalsada at tulay para hindi na kayo kailangan mag-ipon pa nang napakarami para lamang magpunta sa Batangas (If they ask can it be done? It can be done. You should have roads and a bridge so that you will no longer have to save a lot of money just to be able to go to Batangas),” she said. “Para ‘yung mga produkto ninyo mas madali ninyong mailuluwas sa mga lugar kung saan maraming bibili (So that you can easily bring your produce to areas where there are plenty of buyers).”
There is a proposal to build a 14-kilometer bridge worth P18 billion that will connect Mindoro and Batangas. The planned “pontoon” or floating bridge will span across the Isla Verde Passage and will cross Verde Island.
