• POEA, Bulacan to fight illegal recruitment

The provincial government of Bulacan and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) last week to intensify the campaign against illegal recruitment in the province. The MOA was signed a month after two minors were rescued in Sabah, Malaysia, who were illegally recruited by a human trafficking syndicate based in Bulacan. Three of the syndicate’s members were arrested in Meycauayan, Bulacan, after the rescue. The rescued minors were promised jobs as waitresses in Sabah but ended up as prostitutes or “slaves,” according to the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission.
