POLICE ASKED TO GUARD UAAP GAME TICKET SALE

The Quezon City Council had asked the local police to dispatch more undercover operatives in succeeding events in Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao to guard against scalpers who sold event tickets five times higher than its value particularly during sporting events like the finals of collegiate and professional basketball games. Majority Floor Leader Councilors Bong Suntay and Councilor Anjo Yllana reminded Quezon City Police District Director Chief Supt. Richard Albano that under the approved city ordinance, “operatives can arrest scalpers on sight since scalping is a crime in Quezon City.” The ordinance passed by the city council in 1997 and sponsored by basketball coach and third District Councilor Franz Pumaren bans ticket scalping and any person found guilty of the local law shall be penalized by fine of P5,000 or imprisonment of one year.
