Police chief denies link to reporter’s murder

CAVITE: Tanza town police chief Supt. Conrado Villanueva on Wednesday denied accusations by some members of the media that he was involved in the murder of Rubylita Garcia, a reporter of Remate tabloid.

Garcia, 52, was gunned down on April 6 inside her house at 83 Tramo St., Talaba 7, Bacoor City, Cavite.

“There is no reason for me to kill Rubylita (Rubie) Garcia. I have no intention to kill anybody. Ang masaklap, ako’y pinagbibintangan [The worse thing was I have been blamed],” Villanueva, who was relieved from his post, told The Manila Times.

Cavite Provincial Director Joselito Esquivel Jr. on Monday ordered the relief of Villanueva after his name was mentioned by a witness to the shooting of Garcia, the president of the Confederation of Media Practitioners Organization (CAMPO).

Meanwhile, the reward for the arrest of Garcia’s killer was raised to P150,000 with Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla offering P100,000 and Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla chipping in P50,000.
