Police Chief shot dead in shootout

Cavite: The head of the General Mariano Alvarez (GMA) Police Office, who responded to an indiscriminate firing alarm, was shot dead on Wednesday evening in Barangay Delas Alas, GMA town, Cavite. Provincial Police Director Jonnel Estomo said suspects Mando Luminog and Romeo Villaganas fired at GMA Police Chief Leo Angelo Cruz Llacer, hitting the latter in different parts of the body. Llacer led the team, which went to Pasong Saging in Barangay Delas Alas to check on the report that some men fired their guns in the area. When Llacer introduced himself as a policeman, the men reportedly shut the door of the house they were in and started shooting at the police team. Llacer took a direct hit. His colleagues fired back and was able to neutralize Luminog, who was declared ‘dead on arrival’ when brought to the hospital. The other suspect, 32-year-old Villaganas was able to elude pursuing cops.
