Police chief wounded as Sayyaf man grabs his gun

ZAMBOANGA CITY: Lamitan City (Basilan) police chief, Senior Insp. Gean Gallardo, was wounded on Monday by an Abu Sayyaf prisoner who grabbed his gun while under custody. Suspect Mannan Abubakar, facing a string of criminal charges – from murder to terrorism – was eventually killed. It was unknown how Abubakar snatched the officer’s gun but the police office has not issued any statement. It was the second time that an Abu Sayyaf attacked his escort. Another Sayyaf member grabbed the weapon of his army escort Sergeant Carlito Macotocruz, of the 18th Infantry Battalion, and shot him dead in Tipo-Tipo town also in Basilan, recently. The suspect was also killed by other soldiers.
