Police files multiple charges against mall hold-upper


ILOILO CITY: Police filed multiple charges against a 19-year old serial hold-upper on four counts including violation of the Comelec election gun ban, four counts of robbery hold-up, illegal possession of firearm and malicious mischief. Velmar Papelera, a native of Cabugao, Lambunao, Iloilo but residing at Libertad St., Jaro district, was caught armed with a .38 cal revolver by responding policemen led by Police Insp. Jojo Tabaloc of the Mandurriao Police Station after a botched hold-up at the parking area of SM City in Mandurriao last June 5. The suspect admitted it was his fourth hold-up attempt where he preyed upon women with children who were easy targets. His latest victim and her young son caught the attention of security guards who immediately called for police assistance.
