Police intensifies intelligence gathering after Cotabato blast

POLICE operatives on Tuesday intensified their intelligence information gathering after the deadly bombing incident that killed eight people and wounded 30 others in Cotabato City on Monday afternoon.

The said explosion in Cotabato took place ten days after the Cagayan de Oro City bombing where eight people have died and 40 others were wounded.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Alan Purisima, ordered all Mindanao-based police units to intensify their intelligence gathering and security measures in their respective areas after Monday’s bombing.

“Step-up intelligence and target-hardening efforts in their respective areas, particularly on soft targets like commercial areas and such places of convergence and to fully employ the 3-tiered defense system,” Purisima said.

Meanwhile, Senior Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac, PNP Public Information Chief, on Tuesday confirmed that the number of fatalities in Monday’s explosion rose to eight after two more victims who were confined in the hospital died.

The PNP official added that authorities in Central Mindanao have already initiated incident management measures and mobilized emergency response teams in addressing the latest incident of explosion in Cotabato City.

“Part of these incident management measures is to lay-out an isolation and preservation of the crime scene and initiate an explosives trace detection process to aid in the investigation,” Sindac said. ANTHONY VARGAS
