Four members of a gun-for hire group were killed by elite police units Thursday afternoon in a village in Solana, Cagayan, police said Friday.
The Cagayan Valley police director, Chief Supt. Rodrigo de Gracia, identified three of four suspects killed as Freddie Pagulayan, 51; Edwin Dumlao and Ronie Apacible, all from Cagayan.
De Gracia said the group and policemen from the Special Action Force (SAF) clashed in Barangay Centro Northwest, Solana.
De Gracia said troops from the 85th Special Action Company of SAF’s Rapid Deployment Battalion were dispatched to the Centro Northwest to check on the reported presence of armed men there.
The fighting lasted for about five minutes.
De Gracia said there were no casualties in the government side.
Policemen recovered four rifles and two revolvers from the slain suspects.
