Police launch operation vs kidnappers of teachers


ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga Sibugay: Police authorities have launched an operation to track down and recover two public school teachers, who were abducted by gunmen in a remote of this province two days ago, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

He said tracker teams have been sent out to locate Russel Bagonoc, 22, and Reynadeth Silano, 34, who were seized by unidentified gunmen in Moalboal village in Talusan town last Thursday.

At least six gunmen believed to be members of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf blocked the teachers, who were riding on a motorcycle, and dragged them to a wating motorboat.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) condemned the abducton of the teachers and called on authorities to secure their immediate release.

“We hope that they are still safe at this point in time. We are saddened to hear reports of teachers being kidnapped in Zamboanga Sibugay,” ACT said in a statement.

“Once again, we condemn those responsible for the abduction of dedicated public servants, which has resulted to the deprivation of hundreds of school children education,” it said.
