A police official linked to the murder of Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa has posted bail, according to a radio report.
Chief Inspector Teodulo Armada of Region VIII was quoted as saying late Friday that Police Superintendent Marvin Wynn Marcos was freed on Friday, June 16. The report did not say how much the bail was.
Marcos posted bail after the Department of Justice (DOJ) downgraded the murder charges filed against him and 18 other policemen to homicide over the death of Albuera Mayor Espinosa inside a provincial jail on November 5, 2016. Homicide is a bailable offense.
The DOJ ruling was issued after Marcos and his co-accused asked the department to overturn the resolution of the five-man panel of prosecutors in Manila that led to their indictment and arrest in March.
