Police seize P300 million worth of illegal drugs

JOINT government anti-narcotics operatives have recovered more than P300 million worth of illegal drugs early on Wednesday in a posh condominium unit in an upscale village in Paranaque City, police reports said.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AID-SOTF) agents seized some 55 kilos of ephedrine and ‘shabu’ from a unit of Sentosia Condominium along Macapagal Ave., Brgy. Tambo, Paranaque City.

PNP AID-SOTF spokesman, Chief Insp. Roque Merdeguia said the operation that lead to the seizure of illegal drugs worth P307 million were carried by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Fernado Sagun of Quezon City Regional Trial Court.

The AID-SOTF spokesman added that four Chinese nationals and four Filipinos live in the condo unit. They still remain at large and are now subject of police manhunt operations, the official said.

Merdeguia identified the four Chinese as Marvin Tan, Frederick Tan, Jhonson Co and Jacky Sia Huang and their Filipino cohorts as Richard Catungal, Fernando Alegre Dilima, James Garcia and a certain “Emmy” alias “Mingming”.

The AID-SOTF spokesman said recovered inside the condo unit were two suitcases containing 20 packs of ‘shabu’, 15 packs placed inside a locked drawer and a sack of suspected ‘ephedrine’ weighing 20 kilos.

“The search operation was conducted in an orderly manner and the inventory of seized drugs was done infront of witnesses as required by RA 9165. The evidence will be turn-over to PDEA laboratory for examination,” Merdeguia said. ANTHONY VARGAS
