Policeman in anti-drug drive shot dead


A PARAÑAQUE City police was killed by two unidentified men on a motorcycle Friday. PO3 Alberto Canon of the Police Community Precinct 7 was on his way to work when he was shot from behind. Bystanders rushed him to the Army General Hospital in Taguig City but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A report submitted to Senior Supt. Jose Carumba, Parañaque City police chief, said Canon was shot at close range on West Service Road in Barangay Sun Valley at 8 p.m.SPO1 Walter Dulawan of the city’s Station Investigation and Detective Management Branch (SIDMB) said Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) recovered two empty shells of a .45 caliber gun at the crime scene.

Carumba surmised that the killing was related to Canon’s job.

Canon received death threats because of his involvement in anti-illegal drug operations that netted several suspected addicts. Last Wednesday, Canon arrested three men allegedly involved in the illicit drug trade.
