A 27-year-old police officer landed in jail after he was caught leading three other robbers who victimized a couple businessmen along Roxas Boulevard last Tuesday.
Manila Police District director Chief Supt. Rolando Asuncion identified the suspect as Police Officer Argel Nabor, a resident of 317 Mabini Street, Sampaloc, Manila and currently assigned at Northern Police Disrict.
Couple Apolinario Ylaga and his wife Guillerma of 754 San Bernardo Street, Santa Cruz, Manila, said they were riding their gray Toyota Hilux with plate number TIC-964 when the group of Nabor forcibly flagged them down at the corner of Quirino Avenue and Roxas Boulevard.
“Nabor pointed his gun to the couple and grabbed Mrs. Ylaga’s handbag containing P200,000 cash and assorted jewelry before speeding away on motorcycle with his companions,” case investigator PO3 Rico Balines said.
However, Apolinario, who was driving his car, chased the robbers, which caught the attention of patrolling police officers.
Apolinario bumped into the motorcycle of Nabor, which gave policemen the chance to corner the suspect.
“Nabor even attempted to draw his gun, but the responding policemen were quick enough,” Balines said.
Policemen recovered the handbag, while Nabor’s companions evaded arrest.
Nabor was detained at Police Station 9 pending the filing of appropriate criminal charges. JAIME R. PILAPIL
