THE Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating whether the misencounter in Samar where six of its men died early this week was an ambush, Director General Oscar Albayalde said on Thursday.

Albayalde told a press briefing that the 87th Infantry Battallion of the Philippine Army, which had been in the area of Sta. Rita for five to six days, may have been in a “vantage” position when they encountered the 805th Mobile Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8.
