• Poll gun ban nets 100 arrests

MORE than a hundred persons have been arrested during the first week of the election gun-ban imposed by the authorities for the upcoming village elections on October 28, police said Saturday.

Figures from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed that around 102 persons were arrested for election gun ban violations since its implementation on September 28, with civilians as the top violators.

Three policemen, two security guards, and one government official were also nabbed.

Police also seized a total of 86 various types and caliber of firearms, 30 bladed weapons, seven gun replicas, five grenades, 11 other types of explosives, and 759 rounds of ammunitions.

The gun ban, which is the second to be implemented this year, aimed to curb the possible outbreak of violence during the elections.
